Easter Sunday Worship

Easter Sunday worship will include choral and instrumental music, a children’s time, and a message from Pastor Steven. Sunday School precedes worship at 9:15am. Following the service, the children will gather for the Egg Hunt. Children in grades 1–6 will search in the front lawn of the church and toddlers will search in the colonnade courtyard just outside the sanctuary. A cross placed in front of the sanctuary doors under the portico will display beautiful flowers and serve as an ideal picture spot for an Easter photo.

Good Friday Service

Good Friday Service

Join us as we remember the last day of Jesus’ earthly life. The service will take place in the columbarium area (weather permitting). Please bring your chairs and/or blankets for outside worship. The service will be moved indoors in the case of bad weather. Members and clergy from neighboring congregation Vine Street Christian Church will be joining us and leading in worship.

Tonight we observe Maundy Thursday, the commemoration of Jesus’ last meal with his disciples. Dinner is at 5pm in the fellowship hall and the service is at 6pm in the chapel. During Holy Week we move our usual Wednesday night gathering to Thursday for the observance of Maundy Thursday, the commemoration of Jesus’ last meal with his disciples. Documentary Screening: Midwives of a Movement

Documentary Screening: Midwives of a Movement

Immanuel will host a screening of this important documentary on Sunday, March 17th at 5:00pm in the chapel. The film chronicles the establishment of the Baptist Women in Ministry organization in 1983 and the ongoing struggles and celebrations of Baptist women clergy. IBC member Cliff Vaughn of Good Faith Media was the producer of the documentary. He and BWIM Executive Director Meredith Stone will be present at the screening to introduce it and engage in discussion afterwards. Space will be limited, so plan to come early!

Midwives of a Movement will also be screened on Monday, March 18th at 6:30pm at Belmont’s Johnson Theater.

Christmas Eve Service

Immanuel’s Christmas Eve Service will take place December 24th at 4:30pm in the sanctuary. Communion will be served. Pastor Steven will offer reflections and Pastor Stephanie will offer a children’s sermon. Christmas music will fill the sanctuary and a candlelight carol sing-a-long will conclude the service.

Concert Chorale of Nashville Sings Selections from Handel’s Messiah

The Concert Chorale of Nashville will offer a concert at Immanuel Baptist Church on December 3, 2023 at 3pm in the Sanctuary. The performance will consist of selections from Handel’s Messiah. The artistic director is Dr. Tim Sharp. This event is a fundraiser for Room in the Inn. Opportunities to donate will be offered at the event.

Tennessee CBF General Assembly

The Tennessee Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) General Assembly will be held here at Immanuel September 15–16. This gathering will be our first in-person assembly since the onset of the pandemic.

Registration is $30 and scholarships are available for those under 30 years of age. Read more and register at tncbf.org/nashvillega.

Guest Speakers will include CBF Global Missions Coordinator, Laura Ayala and Jesse Sun, Assistant Professor of History of Christianity at Belmont. Worship will be led by our own Tim Sharp and Singer/Songwriter Walker Burroughs.

Lunch and Learn with Older Adults

Ridley Wills will headline the next Older Adult Lunch and Learn, which will take place at IBC on September 12th at 11am. Mr. Ridley will relate the stories of Nashvillians who fought in WWII, three of whom have survived. Come hear about this facinating chapter in the history of Nashville and the U.S. This event is hosted by our older adult group, but anyone is welcome to join. Stay tuned for sign up information.

Jenna Gray-Hildenbrand Speaks on New Religious Movements

Sunday morning August 13th , all adult Sunday School classes are invited to meet jointly in the chapel to hear Dr. Jenna Gray-Hildenbrand, Associate Professor of Religious Studies in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Middle Tennessee State University.

We have invited Dr. Gray-Hildenbrand to talk about contemporary topics in American religion, specifically new religious movements. On Aug 13th she will share with us some of her own research on the topic of "Christian Serpent Handling and Religious Freedom." Dr. Gray-Hildenbrand is happy to discuss your questions on these topics as well as her own findings.

Sunday morning August 6th, all adult Sunday School classes are invited to meet jointly in the chapel to hear Dr. Jenna Gray-Hildenbrand, Associate Professor of Religious Studies in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Middle Tennessee State University.

Vacation Bible School with the theme of Joseph: Stellar Dream Teller will take place Tuesday, July 11 through Thursday July 12. Preschool children (potty-trained) to Sixth Grade are welcome. June 7th will discuss, “God: My Pronouns Are . . . “ and June 14th will explore “What Language Shall We Borrow?” Rev. Dr. Sharp will illuminate the words of the hymns and songs we sing with particular attention to archaic language, royalty language, outdated and irrelevant metaphors, gender-specific language, inclusive language, and ever new and emerging challenges.
