Our preschool and children's leaders strive to create a welcoming environment at Immanuel where children can grow in their faith as they play and learn and worship and serve. We believe that the church should partner with young families to nurture the faith of their children so that they will grow to love God with all their heart and soul, mind and strength.

On Sunday mornings, dedicated teachers staff our Babies-Threes, Fours-Kindergarten, 1st-3rd Grade, and 4th-6th grade Sunday School classes. During Sunday School, children discover that they are loved by God as they explore Bible stories and learn through play. 1st-6th graders join their families in worship, while volunteers staff our two extended session classes during the worship hour (Babies-Threes and Fours-Kindergarten). Children are encouraged to stop by the worship cart to choose a coloring sheet and a manipulative to take into the sanctuary. Pastor Steven leads the time for children during worship at least once a month.

On Wednesday nights from August through May, 1st-6th graders have the opportunity to learn about worship, sing songs, and play instruments during Children and Music, which takes place in the Choir Room from 5:00-5:40 PM. After the church family supper in Fellowship Hall, 1st-6th graders take part in Children on Mission from 6:00-7:00 PM in Room 2314. (Childcare is provided for preschoolers in the nursery.) Our Children on Mission are integrally involved in the life of the church: preparing snack sacks for the homeless men we host during the winter through Room in the Inn, creating crafts for senior adults, visiting our homebound friends, and planting zinnias in our children's garden. After the end-of-the-year children's music and missions program in mid-May, this year we offered six weeks of spiritual formation based on "The Way of The Child." During this period, our children spent time in The Shepherd's Corner, a prayer room created expressly for young worshippers.

Seasonal activities for children include Fall Fest (Saturday before Halloween), Children's Christmas Party (third Saturday in December), Easter Egg Hunt (Saturday before Easter), Family Vacation Bible School (June), Water Night (July), and Passport Kids Camp (late July).

Our Parents' Day Out program is a long-running ministry of the church. PDO classes meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during the school year from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. To learn more about this ministry, contact PDO director Becky Atkinson at
