Coming This Sunday

December 11: Few think of Paul as the "old ball coach." But one can imagine him holding the arm of the player about to enter the game. This is not a time for new material. Instead, the coach repeats what has already been stressed: rejoice always, pray constantly and in all circumstances give thanks. "Always" and "in all circumstances" give most readers pause. Join me on the third Sunday of Advent to explore Paul's recommended course to discovering the depths of existence. —Pastor Steven

Coming This Sunday

December 4: The Gospel of Mark begins like a Starter's pistol: The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ. No angelic announcement of birth. No idyllic Bethlehem. Jesus appears a grown man and bounds from Galilee to be baptized. What proceeds in sixteen chapters is described in verse one. Truth is that the good news of Jesus Christ is always a beginning. To be at the starting line is find that we are not prisoners of the past.
