Advent at Immanuel

Advent is the season of preparation for the brith of Christ. During Advent, Immanuel provides a series of special services, event, and activities designed to help us prepare our hearts to once again receive the Christ Child. This year our theme for Advent is "Glimpses of Discipleship to Come."

Here is the preaching schedule for Advent:
November 30 - Associate Pastor Tambi Swiney preaching on Zechariah and Elizabeth
December 7 - Pastor Steven Meriwether preaching on Joseph
December 14 - Aaron Butler preaching on the shepherds and the wise men
December 21 - Pastor Steven Meriwether preaching on Mary

Beginning on November 30, everyone who is on the church's email distribution list will receive a daily Advent devotion via email. Links to these devotions will also be posted our Facebook page and Twitter feed. These devotions are based on the daily lectionary readings for Advent. Most are drawn from the Old Testament, helping us to put Christ's birth in perspective within the broader scope of salvation history.

On Wednesday, December 3, at 6:15 p.m. in Fellowship Hall, Pastor Tambi will help us reflect on the previous Sunday's sermon. The following Wednesday, Aaron Butler will lead our time of Advent reflection.

Our annual Christmas dinner and program will be held on Wednesday, December 17. Reservations for dinner are required by Thursday, December 11. The cost is $8.00 per person.

The Children's Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 20, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. The cost is $5.00 per child. Reservations are required - contact Pastor Tambi by December 15 to reserve a place for your child.

During our Christmas Eve service, we will observe the Lord's Supper and celebrate our Lord's birth with the singing of carols, choral anthems, a time for children led by Pastor Tambi, a meditation from Pastor Steven, and the traditional candle lighting. This service will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.

We hope you will join us as we observe the season of Advent at Immanuel.
